Inspection points to irregularities in a company that provides food in prison in Acre

The Public Prosecution Service of the State of Acre (MPAC), through the 1st Prosecutor’s Office of Cruzeiro do Sul, and the State Health Surveillance made, on Thursday (13), an inspection in a commercial establishment responsible for the supply of foods for detainees of the Juruá Penitentiary Complex, in Cruzeiro do Sul. The action aimed to verify that food meets quality and safety standards.

During the inspection, the inspectors identified some irregularities, mainly related to the structure, organization and processes of food production. The person responsible for the establishment was notified and must make the adjustments according to the requirements of the Sanitary Surveillance.

Prosecutor Eduardo Lopes, who accompanied the operation, stressed the importance of inspection to ensure the food security of the prison population. “The food security of prisoners must be ensured. Our role is to follow and ensure that the supplied diet is within the hygiene and quality standards required by law, ”said Lopes.

The MPAC has stressed that it will continue to monitor compliance with the requirements and that new inspections may be performed to ensure the regularization of the service.
