Iraqi security forces killed the high -ranking IS commander, who was considered one of the most dangerous terrorists. This was announced by Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad’s heads.
Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Šijá Jesus announced on Friday that the Iraqi security forces killed the high -ranking commander of the Islamic State of the Islamic Terrorist Group (IS). TASR reports this based on AFP and Reuters reports.
The judiciary wrote in the X contribution that Abdallah Makkí Muslih Ar-Rufaji, also known as Abu Chadiza, “was considered one of the most dangerous terrorists in Iraq and the world”. He was also responsible for the functioning of the group’s external operations.
An unnamed AP security representative said Rufaji died during an air attack in Anbár Province in the West Iraq.
The operation took place at a time when Iraqi officials are afraid of the return of IS after the fall of President Bashar Assad’s regime in neighboring Syria. On a visit to Iraq is currently the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the new Syrian transitional government, who said Damascus is ready to “strengthen the anti -Jadist” coalition in the region.
Reuters recalls that at the end of 2015 the IS controlled large parts of Syria and Iraq, which was declared a caliphate. Millions of people lived under the factual rule of terrorists and they also managed to conquer large cities like Mosul. However, the organization in 2019 was almost completely defeated by the International Coalition led by the United States.
The US Central Command said last July that the group was trying to restore their activities after years of depression. The command was based on the IS claims that in the first half of 2024 he carried out 153 attacks in Iraq and Syria.
