Early legislative elections will take place on May 18, following the political crisis that led to the resignation of the government of Luís Montenegro.
The President of the Republic announced on Thursday that he will dissolve Parliament and mark early legislative elections on May 18, following the resignation of the PSD/CDS-PP government led by Luís Montenegro imposed by rejection by the confidence motion to the executive on Tuesday.
According to the Electoral Law for the Assembly of the Republic, the presentation of the lists of candidates for deputies “is up to the competent bodies of political parties” and is “until the 41st prior to the date scheduled for elections”, in this case, April 7, and the formalization of pre-election coalitions with the Constitutional Court will take place until one day before.
The electoral campaign will take place between May 4 and 16, since the law sets that it begins on the 14th previous day and ends at 24 hours from the previous day designated for the elections.
