Created last year, the Fit Model category debuted at the NPC (Acronym for ‘National Physique Committee’, the Amateur Bodybuilding Federation that gives access to IFBB, the International Bodybuilding & Fitness Federation) through the MuscleContest Chapecó Championship, which took place last week.

The Overall (dispute between the winners of all groups of a particular division) of the category was won by Maiara Rotta, who became the first Brazilian bodybuilder to win a competition for Fit Model. In an exclusive interview with the blog, the athlete recalls her trajectory within the sport, talks about judgment parameters and tells her next steps within the sport.

Sports Trajectory

Maiara has had sports since she was a child when she started doing karate. In martial arts, the athlete won dozens of medals, reached the black belt – the last degree of evolution within the sport – and began to teach less experienced practitioners.

After starting bodybuilding training, Maiara met bodybuilding and began to follow the sport. Tournament frequency since 2012, she took more than 10 years to get on stage because she did not believe her body would fit any of the female divisions that existed until then: “I never saw myself in a category.”

In 2023, the bodybuilder made its debut and got two runner-up for the Women’s Sport Model category of NABBA (acronym for ‘National Amateur Body-Builders’ Association’, another federation). Remember that the division in question, where athletes wear top and shorts, does not exist in NPC or IFBB.

It was only in late 2024, with the announcement of the incorporation of Fit Model by NPC and IFBB, which Maiara once again thought of the competitive sport. After a 43 -day preparation, she went to Chapecó in Santa Catarina and won her first title within bodybuilding.

Standards of the category

Original from the United States, Fit Model is practically a response to Wellness, created in Brazil. Instead of requiring more apparent muscle development in the lower limbs, which usually privileges South American genetics, the new category seeks a standard closer to the public. “It’s the beach body. No cellulite, no marking in the glute, no excess fat. A woman who clearly trains. It’s an opening category,” explains Maiara.

“It can’t be as conditioned as a bikini, for example. They have deeper cuts and more muscle, especially on the shoulders and gluteus,” adds the bodybuilder. Points generally highlighted in other categories, such as muscle striats and apparent veins, should not be presented by competitors either.

According to the athlete, the new division has not yet set a standard, “just an idea of how athletes need to be.” Because of this, she described her preparation for the MuscleContest Chapecó as a “dark shot.”

Another point addressed by Maiara is the fact that if she gains more muscle mass, her physique can stop falling into what the referees are looking for the division: “After the competition, I went to get my feedback with the referees and told me that, so I can no longer grow.”

Next Steps

Next weekend, Maiara will compete at the MuscleContest Campinas, which will take place in the interior of São Paulo. In early April, she will participate in Arnold Classic South America, in the state capital, where she will try to win her ‘pro card’ (the professional card allows the athlete to comply with championships organized by IFBB).
