President’s allies bet on distension of relationships within the PT after direct intervention. Lula was annoyed with which he participated last week at the House of the Minister of Institutional Relations, with leaders of the CNB current (building a new Brazil), according to these reports.
How it showed the Sheetmembers of the largest political force of alerted the president about the resistance to the name of the former mayor of Araraquara Edinho Silva to the command of the party. Lula was told that today he would hardly be elected, although supported by the president.
In response, Lula challenged those present to present alternatives at height. The names of (PE), the president of the Perseu Abramo Foundation, Paulo Okamoto, Federal Deputy Rui Falcão (SP) and the government leader in the House, José Guimarães (CE) were cited.
One of those present even suggested the name of the former minister. Lula would have, however, discarded on the grounds that Dirceu should devote himself to the candidacy for in 2026.
This meeting was not on the president’s official agenda. To be present, Lula demanded that he was not disclosed, so much so that participants had to leave their cell phones outside.
After the disclosure of excerpts from the conversation, the president expressed annoyance. In conversations, Lula defined the meeting as an ambush, complaining directly with Okamoto, for whom he was invited to the meeting.
According to these reports, Lula reaffirmed his preference for Edinho for the PT command, even because he was not presented with another viable name.
Edinho supporters outlined a counterfensive. Former CNB coordinator Francisco Rocha, known as Rochinha, protested in a note sent to party affiliates. It was supported by petistas such as Dirceu and state deputy Emídio de Souza.
Edinho, in turn, during a meeting with PT councilors last weekend, the former mayor of Araraquara said Lula’s participation in a meeting with CNB members was one of the president’s greatest gestures to keep the unit in the party. However, he continued, the meeting “was leaked to the press as an instrument of internal struggle.”
This reaction required a response from CNB coordinators. In a clarification note, they argued that the invitation to the president was intended to indicate Gleisi’s interim successor.
“Considerations were also made about the profile of future direction, which is able to lead the party with unity in the defense of the Lula administration and the achievements for the population, as it was throughout the presidency of Gleisi Hoffmann. Throughout his career as founder and greater political leadership of the country and PT, President Lula is and has always been a natural and absolutely legitimate reference in the internal processes of the party,” the note said.
On the same day, Gleisi received Edinho in the Planalto Palace, in a movement of distension. He set out to go to CNB with his supporters to open a dialogue. It will be up to the interim president of the PT, Senator Humberto Costa, to organize these meetings.
Adepts of Edinho’s candidacy state that the meeting, which took place before Gleisi’s inauguration at the Institutional Relations Secretariat, was her last act before taking office in the government.
Now with a seat in the Planalto Palace, you will not be able to contradict Lula. Another participant of the meeting, the government leader in the House, José Guimarães, should not oppose the president, according to the expectation of these supporters of Edinho.
While CNB does not reach an agreement, other party trends begin to discuss the launch of their candidates.
Former PT President Rui Falcão began to attract supporters after publication of a letter on the party’s website. Although without declaring a candidate, the message was received as a platform. In it, Falcão praises Gleisi’s work and states: “We have a remarkable starting point for the work to be done, but new challenges knock on the door.”
