Scottish reveals how he lives in a container without paying income - and spends only 300 euros a month

Scottish Robyn Swan bought a container and equipped him with a kitchen and bathroom and cultivates his own vegetables and meat.

In an effort to escape the high housing costs, a Scottish woman found an unconventional way of living without paying income – within a sea container.

Robyn Swan, 33, of Stirling, adopted a “off the grid” lifestyle – or “out of the network” – spending just over 300 euros per month on subsistence expenses, seeking to achieve total self -sufficiency.

Swan’s bold journey began in 2023, when sold almost all your goodsincluding the car, the furniture and the television, and mortgaged again to buy a 28,000 -square -meter land for about 220,000 euros. To create his home, he invested $ 5000 in a 12 meter container, to which he immediately moved with his partner, Luke, 29.

“When I bought the land, we didn’t even start with a caravan-we moved directly to the container and We built it around us”Swan told.

The transition was not easy. Initially, slept on a mattress on the floordepending on batteries to obtain electricity for eight months, while expecting solar panels to be installed.

Over time, he turned the container into a totally functional house, equipping him with a second-hand cuisine for 6000 euros, a fridge, a freezer and a bathroom with a functional shower and a toilet without Woowoo water.

Swan also installed a system of rainwater collection and filtering and warms your home with a wood stove -powered by wood donated by a client who walks with dogs. Today, your full -time work is to walk dogs while expanding its self -sufficient installation.

To reduce the dependence on supermarkets, Swan cultivates a variety of vegetables – including carrots, potatoes, turnips, tomatoes, strawberries and cabbage. It also creates eggs and meat chickens, as well as rabbits and pigs, with plans to sell meat and vegetables cultivated at home in the future.

“I hope that, at the end of the summer, we will be Cultivate all our meat and vegetables”He said, adding that he already sells eggs from his chickens.

Despite living in a frugal way, Swan occasionally buys dairy products, Take-Away or a bottle of wine. It also uses the Olio application to collect the surplus of markets, further reducing their grocery expenses.

Your total monthly expenses – excluding food – is about 300 euros per month, significantly lower than the cost of your previous home. Swan estimates that it is currently 40% self -sufficient, with the objective of reaching 70% until summer.

Although his lifestyle may seem demanding, Swan says he brings him peace of mind. “If something happened in the world, I know that there would be no shortage of food for me or my family, ”he said.
