Vladimir Putin’s first official reaction to the truce proposal probably did not satisfy Donald Trump. The US president welcomed NATO Secretary -General to the White House and made sure to comment on developments.
Initially, Donald Trump revealed that his Moscow envoy, Steve Whitkov, is in serious discussions and is expected to meet with Vladimir Putin soon. He then stressed: “I hope Russia will do the right thing.” In fact, he reiterated that he would like to see a ceasefire from Russia.
Trump stressed that Vladimir Putin made a promising statement, but insists he was not complete. The US president stressed that he is willing to talk to Putin about a ceasefire proposal.
By fire to praise
The US president was also removed from his criticism of NATO and praised Rutte for his role, saying he had done a “very good job”. Trump said NATO “intensifies his efforts” and praised Rutte.
Both before and after his election, Trump has repeatedly criticized NATO countries because they do not meet the current target of members to spend 2% of their GDP on defense – and said they would have to pay even more. He had argued that the difference is unfair and burdens the US.
“I think Greenland’s annex will happen”
Trump made some new statements on another repetitive issue of his presidency – expressing confidence that the United States would annex Greenland.
“I think this will happen,” he told reporters during the meeting at the Oval Office. “I hadn’t thought about it long before, but I am sitting with a man who could play a very important role,” he said, referring to NATO chief Mark Rutte.
“You know, Mark, you need this for international security, not just for security. It’s really a very suitable question, thank you, ”President Trump said.
It is worth remembering that Denmark has repeatedly stated that Greenland is not sold.
