The First Class of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) unanimously ruled on Friday (14), to maintain the arrest of General Walter Braga Netto, former Minister of Defense and the Civil House in the government of Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

Cristiano Zanin, Alexandre de Moraes, Flávio Dino, Carmén Lúcia and Luiz Fux, who make up the collegiate, judged Braga Netto’s request for the arrest. The trial, in Virtual Plenary, was finalized with five votes favorable to maintain the arrest of the military.
Braga Netto was arrested preventively in December 2024 by the Federal Police (PF) on suspicion of being one of the articulators of a coup plan after the result of the 2022 presidential election.
According to the PF, the general tried to interfere with the coup plan investigation and obtain access to the content of Mauro Cid’s award-winning collaboration, former Bolsonaro orders.
In December, Minister Alexandre de Moraes had already kept the pre -trial detention of the military.
At the time, Moraes followed the understanding of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), who spoke against release, and rejected the defense’s request.
