About 200 people arrested in operation of GNR hunting inspection

The Republican National Guard (GNR) detained 197 people and supervised 7,496 hunters during a hunting surveillance operation, which took place between August 18, 2024 and 28 February this year, was released this Saturday.

In a statement, the GNR explains that this operation, called “Artémis 2024/2025”, aimed to “prevent and detect irregularities inherent in the kinegetic activity (hunting) throughout the national territory”.

As part of this operation, which took place between August 18 last year and February 28, the authorities supervised 7,496 hunters, having detected 195 crimes and made 197 arrests, as indicated in the note.

Of the 197 arrests, it highlights 121 for hunting on unauthorized land and prepared for this activity and 39 for the breach of “fauna conservation” rules.

The authorities also registered 647 offenses, 145 were for “armament transport outside the legally foreseen conditions”, 99 for lack of mandatory documentation and 91 for “infractions committed by the management entities of hunting zones”.

“GNR, especially through the sepna (Nature and Environment Protection Service), has as its strategic priority the defense of natural and environmental values from a perspective of achieving better safety and well-being for human beings and biodiversity,” the note justifies.

Operation “Artémis 2024/2025” reflects GNR’s continuous commitment to ensure compliance with current legislation, promoting the sustainability of kinogetic activity. In addition to arrests and inspections, the initiative included awareness actions with local communities, aiming to educate about the importance of environmental preservation.

The results show the prevalence of irregularities in the sector, which reinforces the need for rigorous supervision. GNR says similar operations will continue to be performed throughout the year, with the aim of protecting fauna and national ecosystems, while ensuring that hunting is practiced responsibly and legal.
