State Representative André do Prado () was reelected this Saturday (15), with most votes, president of Alesp (Legislative Assembly) for another two years. He won Paula from the feminist bench (PSOL).
The reelection was already expected, as it was sewn in agreement that has support even from the PT/PCdoB/PV Federation, the second largest bench of the house, with 18 deputies.
André do Prado’s PL has 19 representatives. Traditionally, the largest benches have the most important chairs of the board.
This is the first time since 1969 that has been allowed for a deputy to be reelected president in the same term. The permanence in command became possible after the approval of a PEC in October last year, which altered the Paulista Constitution, which previously seized reelection.
Prior to the nominal vote, Paula from the feminist bench defended her candidacy noting that in 190 years of history, Alesp was never chaired by a woman.
“We currently have 25 deputies elected, the largest number that has ever happened. This is still little. I hope that one day the assembly does have a president and, why not, women holding positions at the board, including parity with men in this house as a measure of repair,” he said.
Paula received votes only from the PSOL bench. Other deputies of leftist parties, such as Lecy Brandão (PCdoB) and Eduardo Suplicy (PT), justified their votes in André do Prado for the guidance given by their federations of respect for the proportionality of benches.
Ally of the Governor (Republicans) and disciple of, PL head, André do Prado is in his fourth consecutive term as a state deputy.
As President of Alesp, he helped guide and approve relevant projects for the Tarcisio government such as Sabesp’s privatization, PEC (Proposed Amendment to the Constitution) which authorizes reducing the percentage of education resources to increase health and the creation of civic-military schools.
André has been affiliated to the Valdemar party since 1992, when he first played a councilman position and is considered one of the most faithful allies to the leader in the state. Since 2009 he has held command positions of PL Paulista. In his first term at Alesp, between 2011 and 2014, he was the only member of the party in the house. The PL eventually became the Legislature’s biggest subtitle after adopting Bolsonaro to those of 2022.
André’s experience in the executive includes a position of deputy mayor in Guararema (from 2001 to 2004) and a mayor election between 2005 and 2008.
In the period, he was sentenced in the first instance for administrative misconduct, by renewing advertising contracts signed in the previous management and considered irregular by the State Court of Auditors (ECA). However, when appealing the decision, it obtained the annulment of the conviction, remaining clean record.
