Colombo – In order to limit harvesting damage from wild animals, a large -scale count of the monkeys, huge horns and peacocks on the island began in Sri Lanka. “The problem has become so bad that people give up their farms,” says Vice Agricultural Minister Namal Karunaratne. 20 percent of the harvest was lost every year. “The count is the first step to understand the population of these animals in agricultural areas and find suitable control measures.”
