The City of Rio Branco declared a state of emergency, on Friday afternoon (14), during a press conference provided by the mayor of the city, Tião Bocalom.
According to the manager of the capital, with the publication of the decree, the city has autonomy to make acquisitions to meet the need of affected. The level of the Acre River recorded 15.33 meters during the afternoon of the same day.
According to the Municipal Civil Defense, the scenario is still worrying, as the Acre river is expected to reach 16 meters or more. In addition, there is still a concern about next Monday (17), due to the intensification of rainfall. This factor can aggravate the situation that the city is.
During the press conference, a request from parliamentarians about a possible exemption from the IPTU 2025 in the areas affected by the flood was also filed.
Consequences of the flood
An incident occurred at dawn on Thursday (13), around 3:30 am, in ETA 1 (Water Treatment Station), which compromised the supply of water in the capital, after the turn of the ETA II ferry, due to the current and the balm.
With the event, neighborhoods such as the Center and the entire upper part of the city, which receive supplies from ETA I, were without water. This station is responsible for about 40% of the distribution in the region, which further aggravated the situation.
