Southeast Asia country had interrupted transactions in 2021; RESUME CAN MOVEMENT UP TO US $ 200 MILLION ANNUAL
The Indonesian government announced this Friday (14.mar.2025) plans to start the sale of carbon compensation from its forest sector.
The movement aims to integrate the country into the global carbon market after the interruption of transionic trade at the end of 2021. The initiative has the potential to move US $ 200 million per year.
Indonesia has vegetation formed by large tropical forests. For this reason, it has potential in the compensation market – other countries can finance forest projects in their territory.
In 2021, Indonesia had chosen to prioritize the fulfillment of its own carbon reduction goals without external agreements.
Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni said the international carbon compensation trade in the forest sector will be launched soon.
A challenge for Indonesia is the recognition of international standards. The government aims to complete mutual recognition agreements until May.
