Mauro Mendes criticized the recent economic decisions of the federal government, especially regarding the proposal to prevent states from zeroing ICMS on food from the basic basket
The governor of, Mauro Mendes, expressed criticism of the recent economic decisions of the federal government, especially regarding the proposal to prevent states from zeroing ICMS on basic food food. Mendes argued that this measure is not an effective solution to the economic problems faced by the country. He pointed out that, in Mato Grosso, many products no longer have a tax rate, and classified the actions of the Lula government as wrong. According to the governor, inflation in Brazil is the consequence of an ineffective fiscal policy, high interest rates and the devaluation of the real, which occurs due to distrust in the government’s ability to honor commitments and maintain monetary stability. Mendes emphasized that the federal government should focus on structural measures rather than adopting electoral actions or transferring responsibilities.
Amid these criticism, the governor participated in the auction of the Road Concession Program on the São Paulo Stock Exchange. The purpose of the auction is to improve the state’s infrastructure and road network, with an expected investment of almost 5 billion reais. The concession contract lasts 30 years and covers more than 1,300 km of highways. Mendes highlighted the importance of these investments for agribusiness, a sector in which Mato Grosso stands out as one of the main producers of the country. He stressed that efficient highways are essential to maintain agribusiness competitiveness and improve the quality of life of the population, as the roads are used daily by ambulances and residents.
During the auction, two sections did not receive proposals, which, according to Mendes, was already expected due to technical misconceptions in project modeling. He said adjustments will be made in the next 30 days to solve these issues. The winning companies of the auction were those that presented the lowest toll tariff value, thus ensuring the economic viability of the concessions. Mendes reinforced the importance of correcting technical errors to ensure the success of the concession program and, consequently, the development of the state.
The governor of Mato Grosso concluded his statements by emphasizing the need for a more strategic and less political approach to the conduct of economic and infrastructure policies. He believes that, with proper adjustments and focus on long -term solutions, the state can continue to grow and develop, benefiting both the productive sector and the general population. Mendes reaffirmed his commitment to work so that Mato Grosso remains an example of efficiency and progress in the national scene.
