President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said on Saturday, 15, in his profile on social network X, that it is still necessary to defend democracy against the return of authoritarianism. The publication was made in celebration on March 15, a date that in 1985 marked the inauguration of the first president of the Civil Republic, after the years of the military dictatorship in 1964.
“More than the inauguration of a President of the Republic, March 15, 1985 will be remembered as the day Brazil marked the reunion with democracy. President José Sarney ruled under the constant threat of the late dictatorship, but with extraordinary skill and political commitment created the conditions for us to write the 1988 citizen constitution, and change the history of Brazil, ”Lula wrote.
The president said that in 40 years of democracy, Brazil has undergone “very difficult times”, but with “important steps for the construction of the country we dream.”

“Brazil is today the country that grows with social inclusion. That fights hunger and inequalities. It generates jobs, increases income and improves the quality of life of families. Who takes care of everyone, with a special look for those who need it most. Without democracy, none of this would be possible. Therefore, it is necessary to defend it every day of those who, even today, plan the return of authoritarianism, ”said Lula.
