São Paulo, SP (Folhapress) – O, 88, spent a quiet night again, said the Vatican. The religious completes this Friday (14) a month of hospitalization. He arrived at the Agostino Gemelli Hospital in Rome with a severe respiratory infection.

Last month, still in the early days of hospitalization, the Vatican announced that he suffered from pneumonia in both lungs. It is an infection that makes breathing more difficult and can ignite and heal the organs. The announcement rekindled concern for the health of the Catholic Church leader, who had the right pulmonary wolf removed as a young man.

During treatment, medical experts said the main risk is that the pontiff will have an exacerbated inflammatory sepsis -response condition of the body to an infection – if the germs that are on the airways fall into the bloodstream.

This possibility has decreased in recent days, however. There was improvement in the health of Francisco, and the medical team withdrew last Monday (10) the so-called reserved prognosis, which in practice ruled out imminent danger of death. Already on Wednesday (12), the Vatican reported that a recent chest tomography confirmed the evolution in the clinical picture. There is no forecast of discharge.

In a month of hospitalization, the Vatican sought to show that the Pope remains active in charge of the Church, dispatching documents, texts for prayers and receiving number two from the Roman Curia, Secretary of State, Pietro Parolin. Francisco had, however, to delegate commitments linked to Jubilee, and four Sundays have not recited Angelus, a traditional commitment to the faithful in São Pedro Square.

Bulletins released daily are written by doctors responsible for the treatment of the pontiff and synthesize all expert evaluations. Then “according to the Holy Father” they release “the news to the world.” “The Pope always wanted us to say the truth,” they said in the early days of hospitalization.

The pontiff has been setting for transparency. Bulletins released throughout the hospitalization, at Francis’ request, described delicate situations, such as the need for inhaled vomiting aspiration.

Asked about the absence of images of the religious leader in the hospital, professionals said last month that it is not possible to take pictures of him from pajamas. “It’s not that he gets dressed as a Pope all day,” said Sergio Alfieri, one of Francisco’s doctors. “We need to respect your privacy.”

On Thursday (13), Francisco completed 12 years of pontificate. During this period, he sought to print a more inclusive image in the Church, both in the nod to the LGBTQIA+community, even with caveats, and in the appointment of women to important positions of the Vatican summit.

The Vatican congratulated Francisco by the brand in a video with the retrospective of the religious at the head of the church. The Holy See also asked the faithful to continue praying for the health of the Argentine.
