Russia President Vladimir Putin announced that the Strategic Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between Russia and Venezuela has been “fully agreed” and is ready to be signed. The statement was made during a video conferencing with Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, in celebration of 80 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
“I am pleased to announce that the strategic partnership agreement and cooperation between our countries has been fully agreed,” Putin said. According to the Russian leader, the covenant “will create a solid base for the expansion of our long -term multifaceted bonds” and could be formalized during a visit from Maduro to Russia, still being defined.
Putin also invited Maduro to the 80th anniversary celebrations of victory in the Great Patriotic War on May 9 in Moscow. The Russian President pointed out that Venezuela supported the Soviet Union during World War II, providing fuels and other materials essential to the war effort.
In addition, Putin stressed the convergence of positions between the two countries on international topics. “Together we oppose any manifestation of neo -Nazism and neocolonialism. We thank Venezuela to support the relevant Russian initiatives in multilateral forums, ”he said. He added that both countries seek to “build a fairer world order” and promote “the sovereign equality of states and mutually beneficial cooperation without external interference.”
The Russian President also reaffirmed Moscow’s commitment to Caracas. “Russia will do and continue to do everything possible to make our joint efforts in the commercial, economic, scientific, technical, cultural and humanitarian spheres even closer and comprehensive,” he said.
