The Algarve coast has hundreds of beaches and while some are considered ‘secret’, others are better known. However, there is a particular sand in the southern region of the country that is even well known, as it is talked about several times in the press, but only there is the ‘secret’. It is that to access this beach you need to take a boat in a place that is not ‘obvious’ and you can only buy the ticket if you have physical money with you.
Those who go to Tavira Island Beach usually catch the boat in the city center with the same name or in the four ages. Also on the island of Tavira there is another beach, the barrel, whose access can be made from Pedras del Rei, using the famous train or on foot. Still, between these two beaches there is another one whose access can be made by boat, if you do not want to walk more than one kilometer on foot by the sand.
You must take the boat in Santa Luzia
We talk about narrow earth beach, which owes its name to the fact that it is on a stretch where Tavira Island narrows, resulting in a sand tongue about 50 meters wide. To get to this beach you have to take the boat first in the village of Santa Luzia. The pontoon from which the boats leave for the narrow earth beach is in sight of everyone, but it is known that tickets can only be bought with physical money.
We recommend:
Until landing on narrow land beach, you will have the opportunity to take a short boat trip along Ria Formosa. Note, however, that only the connection between Santa Luzia and Terra Beach narrows from May 1st and until mid -October.
The fishing village is the capital of octopus
Since you have to go to Santa Luzia to catch the boat, be sure to visit the fishing village that is known as the capital of octopus. In addition to the locality to be known as a good place to observe the sunset, also take the opportunity to walk the marginal that extends on the edge of Ria Formosa. There will be at your disposal various cafes and restaurants where the octopus is the protagonist of a vast majority of the dishes served.
If you want to visit this small, width, large, beyond, outside the period when there are boat calls, be aware that access to it has to be done on foot from Tavira Island Beach or Barril Beach.
