The US president, Donald Trump, announced on Saturday a “decisive and forceful” attack against the hutis in the Yemen for his offensive against navigation and has warned Iran that his support for that group must cease immediately.
Trump has indicated that he has ordered the US armed forces that military maneuver by considering that the hutis “have fought an implacable campaign of piracy, violence and terrorism against ships, aircraft and American drones and other countries.”
“Our brave combatants are carrying out air attacks against the bases, leaders and antimile defenses of terrorists to protect US maritime, aerial and naval assets and restore freedom of navigation,” he said in his social network, Truth Social.
At least nine people died and another nine were injured in these attacks against positions of the Shiitic Shiitic rebels in Saná, the capital of Yemen, according to the Ministry of Health of the Insurgents.
Trump stressed that “no terrorist force will prevent US commercial and naval ships from sailing freely through the world’s navigable roads”: “All hutis terrorists: their time is over. His attacks must stop today! If not, hell will come to them as never before!”
“An overwhelming lethal force” to achieve its goal
The president has stressed that the US will use “an overwhelming lethal force” until its objective is achieved. “The hutis have blocked maritime transport in one of the most important river paths in the world, paralyzing vast strips of global trade and attacking the fundamental principle of freedom of navigation, on which international trade depends,” he added.
The Republican leader has considered that the response of his predecessor, the Democrat Joe Biden (2021-2025), was “pathetically lazy” and allowed him to continue a situation that has said that it has cost many billions of dollars and has put innocent lives at risk.
His message also directly challenged Iran. “Support to Huti terrorists must cease immediately! Do not threaten the US people, its president (…) or world maritime routes. If you do, be careful! Because the United States will require accounts and will not be friendly about it.”
The insurgent movement backed by Iran has launched hundreds of attacks against Israel, as well as against commercial navigation in the Red and Arabic Sea, from the outbreak of the war in the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023 in response to the slaughter of Palestinians by the Jewish state.
