United States President Donald Trump ordered the dismantling of seven government agencies, including the headquarters of America’s International Broadcasting Service and another that focuses on solving homeless problems.
The executive order, released on Friday night, 14, is part of the mission of reducing the size of the federal government and will test the limits of presidential power, since most small organs were created by statute by Congress. The order instructs that the organs are “eliminated to the maximum extension allowed by applicable law.”
One of the bodies that the executive order seeks to eliminate is the United States agency for global media, which is the matrix for the voice of America and Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. These organizations were established to emphasize democratic values, providing news in countries where the free press is threatened, including Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan, Russia and Ukraine. Organizations employ thousands of journalists. Some Voice of America employees received an email on Saturday informing that their job was closed.
The other organs included in the Order of Trump were: the federal mediation and conciliation service, formed to facilitate conflicts between work and management; Woodrow Wilson International Center for Academics, a Think Tank; the Institute of Museum and Library Services, which provides subsidies to libraries and museums; The United States Interacts Council on Homeless; the Community Development Financial Institutions Fund, which promotes access to capital and local economic growth; and the Minority Business Development Agency, which is under the Trade Department.
