How does the CBF election work?
The election at the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) is a process that occurs indirectly, that is, the members of the General Assembly of the entity vote. This assembly is composed mainly of representatives of state federations, prominent clubs and other alloys of Brazilian football. The number of voters may vary, but it is usually around 27 votes.
The election is convened by the president of the CBF or an electoral commission, who defines the date and procedure for choosing the new leader of the entity. To apply, interested parties need to meet some requirements, such as getting support from a minimum number of federations or clubs, and their application must be officially registered. During the election period, candidates have their proposals, although this process is more restricted and not so visible to the public, as the vote occurs internally among the representatives.
Voting is secret and usually the president is elected by an absolute majority of valid votes. If no candidate reaches this majority in the first round, a second round can be held, where the candidate with the most votes will be chosen. The mandate of the president -elect lasts four years, with the possibility of reelection, and the electoral process takes place again at the end of each period. If the president goes away or is deprived, a new electoral process can be summoned to choose a substitute.
