Finnish President Alexander Stubb described the chances of a ceasefire in Ukraine as very poor, accusing Putin of continuing aggressive goals.
According to Finnish President Alexander Stubba, the chances of Russian President Vladimir Putin will agree with the ceasefire in Ukraine. He said this during the interview for the British BBC news station broadcast on Sunday, TASR reports according to DPA.
“Putin does not want peace,” stubb said. The original goal of the Russian president, according to him, was “the end of the existence” of Ukraine, and “this goal has not changed this goal”.
While Ukraine showed a willingness to consider a temporary ceasefire, Russia is still refusing to participate in immediate negotiations, especially after the US proposal for a 30-day ceasefire in the fighting, writes DPA.
After Saturday’s virtual summit of 29 world leaders, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who initiated the meeting, accused Putin of trying to “delay” the ceasefire.
Stubb called on an international community to increase pressure on Putin
In this context, Stubb noted that the international community must therefore maximize pressure on Putin. The Finnish president spoke for the imposition of further sanctions, the use of frozen Russian assets and “arming Ukraine to teeth” in order to end the conflict.
Finland, which shares the 1340-kilometer border with Russia, has been a member of the North Atlantic Alliance for almost two years, DPA adds.
