Since the return of Taliban to power in 2021, Afghan women have faced strict restrictions, including a ban on education and work in most governmental positions.

Former Afghan President Hamid Karzaj on Sunday again called on the Taliban radical movement to enable Afghan girls to attend schools and universities. He did so at a time when the start of the new school year is approaching in Afghanistan, TASR reports according to DPA.

In a statement, Karzaj noted that Afghan girls have been prevented from participating in the educational process in schools for three years.

“Education is not just a right; It is an essential basis for prosperity, dignity and survival of our country and its people, “said the Afghan ex -president.

At the same time, Karzaja pointed out that the persistent denial of education is hampered by girls’ development in Afghanistan and forces many young people and families to look for opportunities beyond the country.

Since the return of Taliban to power in the summer of 2021, Afghan women and girls have been banned after the end of the elementary school ban, DPA recalls. This decision, originally presented by the Taliban as a “temporary suspension”, has not been re -assembled since then.

Also, Afghan women are not allowed to travel on longer routes without a male procession and cannot work in most governmental positions. The Taliban government does not continue to recognize the international community, adds DPA.
