Retention of the declaration may occur due to inconsistencies in the information provided and result in consequences such as the delay in refund, fines and, in more serious cases, penalties
With the opening of the deadline for the statement, millions of taxpayers have already begun to gather documents and fill in the program. The period, which usually generates doubts and insecurity, requires attention to avoid errors that can lead to the fine mesh. Retention of the declaration may occur due to inconsistencies in the information provided and resulting in consequences such as delay in receipt of refund, fines and, in more serious cases, penalties for tax crime. Experts recommend that taxpayers carefully review all data before sending to avoid problems with the tax authorities.
According to Manoel Fernando do Valle, president of the Brazilian Association of Administrative Support Service Provider (Abrapsa), even if the statement falls into the fine mesh, the solution can be simple. “Upon receiving the notification of pending issues, simply access the ECAC, check the differences pointed out by the IRS and, if necessary, rectify the statement directly in the system,” he explains. The process becomes more complex when receiving an subpoena term, which requires specific measures.
Main Errors in the IRPF Declaration
Carmem Granja, Abrapsa Expansion Director, lists the most common errors that carry contributors to the fine mesh:
- Omission of income: All paying sources must be informed, including salaries, pensions, rents and judicial gains. Many taxpayers forget to declare rent beyond the main salary.
- Dependent income: Any income obtained by dependents, even below the boundary of obligation, must be declared.
- LACK OF COLLECTION OF THE LION: Professionals who receive individuals without retention of tax at source, alimony or abroad values need to collect the lion booklet monthly.
- Bank balances not declared: Current accounts, investments and savings with a balance greater than R $ 140 on December 31, 2024 shall be included in the statement.
- Improper use of the CPF: Allowing third parties to use the CPF for purchases or investments can generate equity inconsistencies and retention in the fine mesh.
To avoid problems, experts recommend gathering all documents before filling out the declaration and checking out the informed data. The deadline for submission of income tax ends in 2025, and taxpayers who had income exceeding R $ 33,888.00 in the previous year must declare.
