Papa Francisco is seen in hospital for the first time in image released by the Vatican

Vatican City (Reuters) – The Vatican released on Sunday the first image of Pope Francis in the hospital since the 88 -year -old pontiff began treatment for double pneumonia.

The Pope was admitted to the Gemelli Hospital of Rome on February 14, with a severe respiratory infection that has required continuous treatment. He has not been seen in public since then.

Francisco is portrayed with his back in the image, sitting in a chapel in the hospital. The Vatican said the Pope celebrated the Mass with other priests in the chapel this Sunday.

The Pope, who received oxygen throughout the treatment in the hospital, seems to be breathing without aid in the photo.
