Start Work brings together companies, schools and entities to promote employment and training in Portimão

Portimão Arena receives, on March 20 and 21, the VII Edition of Start Work – Education, Vocational Training, Entrepreneurship and Employment, an event aimed at young people from the age of 13 and to adults wishing to explore opportunities for qualification and insertion in the job market.

Launched by the municipality of Portimão in 2016, this project, interrupted for some time due to the pandemic, aims to promote and disseminate job offers and professional internships, programs and measures to support investment, vocational training, secondary and higher education.

The opening is scheduled for 10 am on March 20, starting two days of intense programming, which includes thematic demonstrations, workshops and enlightenment sessions conducted by the present entities. Visitors will have direct contact with educational institutions represented, and can know the formative offers available and clarify doubts about professional exits, internships, job search techniques, emotional and artificial intelligence, the role of parents in decision making and access to higher education.

Start Work VII is again attended by a wide range of educational and private educational institutions, including the five groups of Portimão schools, the University of Algarve, the Hospitality and Tourism School of Portimão, the Instituto Higher Manuel Teixeira Gomes, the Portimão Firefighters, the Army, the Army, the GNR and PSP, as well as dozen companies.

Investment in the modernization of vocational education

Within the Portuguese 2030 Strategy, Manuel Teixeira Gomes and poet António Aleixo were approved applications for Specialized Technological Centers (CTE), in an investment that exceeds 4.6 million euros.

  • Manuel Teixeira Gomes Secondary School received more than 1 million euros for its computer science.
  • Poet António Aleixo Secondary School obtained 3.6 million euros for the creation of three CTE in the industrial, informatics and renewable energy areas.

These centers aim to modernize vocational education infrastructures, increasing the competitiveness of companies and fostering qualified employment, being fundamental to boost the economy and technological development of the region.

Animation and Free Entry

Start Work VII runs between 10:00 and 18:00, with free admission and a dynamic program that includes music, rhythmic gymnastics, dance, facial paintings and balloon modeling, providing an interactive and attractive environment for participants.

Organized by the Portimão City Council, Institute of Employment and Vocational Training and Directorate-General of School Establishments-Directorate of Services of the Algarve Region, the full program of the show will be available soon in.
