The envoy of the White House for the Middle East, Steve Witkoffhe said this Sunday that the proposals that the Palestinian Islamist movement is offering to prolong the high fire in Gaza are “unacceptable” and warns the organization that time “is exhausted” to reach an agreement with Israel.
Witkoff has not explained why he sees Hamas’s proposals inasumible, which this week has offered to free an Israeli-American hostage and return the lifeless bodies of four other captives. “I will not go into specific details but it was totally unacceptable,” said the envoy.
The US and Israel demand from Hamas the immediate release of approximately a dozen living hostages and the mortal remains of another 17 during the high fire unilaterally by Israel, in force until the end of the Jewish Easter in mid -April, while the Islamist movement continues to cite to the original negotiation required by the Israeli military withdrawal of the Enclave.
Israel, meanwhile, has warned onnumerable occasions that it will not tolerate Hamas to continue at the head of the Gaza Strip. Witkoff did not get so far in his comments to CNN but Yes he warned Hamas that his “demilitarization” represents an unnegotiable issue for Tel Aviv negotiators. “It is a red line for the Israelis,” he said.
“I think they have an opportunity, but it is running out quickly,” Witkoff added about Hamas’s position before threatening the possibility of resuming military operations following the example of the campaign that the United States began on Saturday in Yemen.
“What happened yesterday with the hutis and our attack should indicate our position regarding terrorism and our tolerance towards terrorist actions. And I encourage Hamas to be much more sensible,” he warned.
