Kigali/Brussels/Goma – Due to the armed conflict in the Eastern Congo, Belgium and Rwanda demolished their diplomatic relationships on Monday and referred all diplomats of the country’s opposite side. Belgian diplomats had 48 hours to leave the East African country. Rwanda’s step took place one day after President Paul Kagame Belgium had accused international sanctions against his country because of the conflict in the Congo. The government in Kigali accused the former colonial power of the Congo with “lies and manipulations” to fuel hostility to Rwanda. Rwanda supports rebels in the Eastern Congo in the fight against the local government.
