The foreign ministers of the European Union (EU) celebrate a meeting on Monday in which they will deal with the latest events around the war in Ukraine, including, as well as the situation in.
The debate on Ukraine will occur after the virtual summit of 26 leaders organized on Saturday by the British Prime Minister, in which it was agreed that the military managers of the European and allies will meet again next Thursday in the United Kingdom to advance in the plans of a possible deployment of troops on Ukrainian soil.
The point on Ukraine provided in Monday’s council in Brussels will begin with the videoconference intervention of the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Andrí Sibiga, who will report on the latest events in the country and the “most pressing” needs of kyiv, “including military support,” community sources indicated.
Then, the ministers will discuss without Sibiga, while the high representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, will urge the twenty -seven to “make more urgently and immediately to put Ukraine in a position of force.”
On the table is a proposal of Kallas itself to contribute to Ukraine between 20,000 and 40,000 million euros of military aid this year, something that various diplomatic sources considered this Friday that it can only be achieved through a “coalition of volunteers” for the opposition of Hungary.
Kallas has made this proposal in a new version -which had EFE access -of its plan to accelerate and concentrate the efforts of the participating states to meet the most pressing needs of Ukraine in 2025, and place this country in “the best possible position to boost peace through force”.
The variation in the amount of the contribution will depend on the needs of kyiv, but should fundamentally cover the provision of large -caliber artillery ammunition; Air defense systems, missiles, drones and combat planes; Support for brigades regeneration (train and equip them), including non -lethal support, and contributions to future security guarantees for Ukraine.
Whenever possible, these products of the European or Ukrainian military industry will be purchased.
In any case, various diplomatic sources pointed out that the EU is aimed at a “coalition of volunteers” to expand support to Ukraine, seen that they do not believe that Hungary will join those efforts.
They also considered that Monday will be too soon to make decisions about this plan.
Another novelty that includes Kallas’s new proposal is that each participating EU is invited to contribute a part of the military contribution of the main global figure “depending on its economic weight” or its gross national income.
The support may be provided in kind through bilateral deliveries or through third parties, or through a financial contribution.
The meeting occurs at a time when the United States has decided to get involved in diplomatic negotiations to end war and is maintaining contacts with Russia and Ukraine.
On the other hand, the ministers will discuss the situation in Syria, after the violence of recent days in the country, which has left hundreds of dead.
The same Monday, after the meeting of the Foreign Ministers, the Ninth Conference of Brussels will take place in support of the Syrians, with the aim of collecting international support that financially underpin the transition in Syria after the fall of the Bachar al Asad regime.
This ninth Brussels conference has been invited to the Syrian provisional authorities, and the Interim Foreign Minister is scheduled to attend Shaibani.
The bosses of the diplomacy of the Member States will also talk about Gaza and the West Bank, as well as about Iran.
The debate on the Persian country will focus on Tehran’s military cooperation with Russia, the arrests of citizens from countries of the European Union, Iranian hybrid operations in Europe, the country’s nuclear career and destabilizing activities in the region, including support for armed groups in Gaza, Lebanon and Yemen, according to community sources.
The EU ministers will also talk about relations with the United States. The sources stressed that it is “clear” that the two parties “are stronger together and also that the European Union needs to be strong in defense, competitiveness and in our own interests and values.”
The ministers are also expected to approve sanctions against ten people for the role of Rwanda in the crisis in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
