Extremely rare picture of Hipolit Lipiński at ancient art exhibition at DESA Unicum

A record turnout at Józef Chełmoński’s exhibition at the National Museum and great interest in the work of Moses Kisling in Villa La Fleur show that classic painting fascinates subsequent generations. Precisely devoted details, encrypted symbols and surprisingly current threads mean that work painted in recent centuries is willingly interpreted by recipients. Now outstanding works of realism and modernism can be seen at the exhibition in. The spring edition of the former art exhibition is over 60 works. Among the paintings representing the nineteenth-century realism, the image of Hipolit Lipiński “Rumford soup in front of the church of St. Catherine in Krakow. ” The exhibition “Old Art. Nineteenth century, modernism, interwar “can be seen until March 20 in the building at ul. Piękna 1A in Warsaw.

Krakow social mosaic in Lipiński’s painting

Hipolit Lipiński is undoubtedly one of the most outstanding Polish painters of realists operating in the second half. Of the 19th century. Matejko’s student did not follow the path of monumental historical scenes. In his large -format paintings, he made a thorough analysis of society. He played a historic costume and related details with a reporter. Although he died prematurely at the age of only 38, and his work was only in negligible research, the artist’s works themselves “tell” stories. One example is the DESA Unicum, an extremely rare, gallery painting “Rumford soup in front of the church of St. Catherine in Krakow. ” This is not only a generic scene, but also a valuable analysis. The title soup is a nutritious, invented at the beginning of the 19th century by socio-charity organizations, a meal. Lipiński presents the realities of the era with great attention to detail – in his composition there are various social layers: poor waiting for a free meal, townspeople observing the scene from a distance, as well as clergy. Technical precision, a realistic approach to characters and faithful mapping of details make the image a valuable document of the era, showing the complexity of the 19th-century landscape of Krakow.

Paris media wrote about this artist – a mysterious “ballerina”

One of the most intriguing works at the exhibition is Bolesław Biegas’s “Ballerina”. The canvas is an example of spherical images created by the artist, in which he gave up a traditional portrait and individual features of characters in favor of universal symbolism. The compositions based on the circle – the absolute figure visible in “Balletnica” – became a testimony to the artist’s genius and his pursuit of perfection, and the experimental direction quickly became the subject of conversations in the artistic environment of Paris of Paris of the 1920s. The first vernissage of the artist’s work had to be a great success, since in the following weeks the French press wrote about the run. Although conservative critics saw in spherical paintings another form of the fall of art after Kubism, Michael Georges-Michel wrote “Biegas is an inventor.” The image presented in DESA Unicum is not only an example of the artist’s genius. The X -ray photo taken as part of the research project also reveals numerous puzzles, as if intentionally encrypted by the painter. In a deeper painting layer, hidden under the spherical image of a woman, an unusual discovery emerges – the self -portrait of Biegas, was created around 1910. In the next layer we will see a symbolic landscape below, the silhouette of the palace, presumably created at the beginning of the 20th century. On the right, there is also a mysterious procession of two characters in white robes. The uniqueness of the image may also be demonstrated by the fact that he remained in the private possession of the artist for over half a century, until the last days of his life.

Jubilees of artists at DESA Unicum

The exhibition of former art could not be missing the works of Olga Boznańska, whose name Sejm announced the lasting year. The creative painter’s credo sounded “when I can’t paint, I should stop living.” In her portraits, Boznańska was inclined to the psychological image. She was a realist portraying souls. In Paris, sophisticated ladies were even to warn of each other that the painter did not beautify his models, on the contrary, he brings out visual ugliness from them. The “portrait of a man” presented in DESA Unicum, as well as other images created by Boznańska, is accompanied by a breeding and vibrating surface. Among the works at the exhibition was also a portrait by Meli Muter. One of the most outstanding Polish painters often immortalized in the picture of politicians, writers and musicians. The canvas presented in DESA Unicum presents Maurice Ravel, a composer whose 150th birthday is celebrated this year. The portrait is a very typical image for Muter, in which the painter perfectly gave the interior of the model sitting in the chair: she strongly emphasized the hands and parts of the face, in which the eyes of the model became the gate inside.

These and other of over 60 works can be admired until March 20 at the exhibition “Old Art. 19th century, modernism, interpreter “Desa Unicum at ul. Piękna 1A in Warsaw. Free admission.
