Threat from Russia and the recent UNDERTITION from the United States are putting the country on alert
These are warnings that come on both sides: the hospital system in Germany is under cost pressure and needs a renovation. But there is a third pillar to take into account, in the perspective of Bavaria’s health minister, one of the most important states of the federal regime.
On the sidelines of a vote that should decide a large package to roar the German Armed Forces, Judith Gerlach warns that it is necessary to prepare the rest of the country for what one wants to avoid: war.
In an interview with, the minister states that the country must have its medical infrastructures prepared for extreme emergencies, as would be a war scenario.
“The military threat to Europe from Russia and the possible departure of the United States from a security partnership also means a massive need for action for the German health system and for civil society as a whole,” CDU partner CDU party said, which won recent national elections.
Although he recognizes the need to modernize the country’s defense, Judith Gerlach says she does not come to an isolated sector. “This step cannot be limited to the Armed Forces. Instead, the civil sector must also be prepared, ”he added, asking for a“ Civil Operations Plan in Germany ”.
“This also applies to Civil Defense, which has to ensure the care of the population in the event of war,” he continued, asking the health system to prepare for “all kinds of crises, including military attacks.”
“The health system is as important as the defense of a country,” he reiterated.
The objective, realized the Minister of Health of Bavaria, is to ensure that more than 80 million inhabitants of Germany can have access to health care in a war context, as well as the necessary response to injured soldiers.
“Despite all the problems, such as the lack of qualified workers, this has to be ensured so that one can take care of more people than in peacetime,” said Judith Gerlach, who wants the government to “define clear instructions”, which applies to all levels.
