The breakage of a water raft for irrigation with a capacity of 310 cubic meters of water has caused the cut of the Ex-119 road, in northern Extremadura, among the municipalities of (17,010 inhabitants) and (2,845 neighbors), in the province of Cáceres. Specifically, what has caused the entrance of a mass of water in part of the population of Jarandilla, the dragging of vehicles and the evacuation of two people from their home.
The problem in the water raft, which is owned by the Board of Extremadura, has registered around 5.15 last morning. As told by the mayor of Jarandilla de la Vera, Fermín Encabo, to El País, the overflow has occurred due to the sinking of a vault that was built to save a stream that passes next to the pond. The vault has come down and has caused the entrance of a mass of water into the population.
Due to the incident, a cars workshop has been affected, where water has dragged about thirty vehicles, which have been piled up. “The event has occurred at about five in the morning, at that time two people were sleeping at the plant above the workshop. They have been evacuated by firefighters and attended by doctors due to nervousness, ”said the mayor.
The other affected business has been a nearby funeral home, which had a coffin inside, but there were no relatives watching it. “Water has also entered a nearby funeral home, thankfully the relatives were not there at that time, if we would not be talking about something worse,” said this municipal responsible. The water has not dragged the coffin, which has remained inside the facilities, the mayor has confirmed.
The situation is controlled, according to Fermín Encabo. Now mud cleaning and debris are being carried out that has dragged the water. The mayor of the municipality of Cacereño has stressed that the raft has not burst, but that there has been a hole in the middle of this. “We are waiting for technicians to come to assess whether the roads can be opened or not,” says the first mayor.
On whether the event is due, in Jarandilla de la Vera they say that during the night it has not rained, but days ago. At the moment firefighters of the Provincial Fire Extinction Service of the Diputación de Cáceres are working on the cleaning of the affected section of the Ex-119 road, located at kilometer 31. In response to the emergency, several patrols of the Civil Guard, of citizen security and traffic, have also moved to the area and a traffic detour has been established at kilometer 28 of the ex-119 In Losar de la Vera direction (Cáceres).
The Civil Guard maintains its presence at kilometer 49 of the EX-203, regulating the circulation to avoid transit by the former-119, as well as in kilometer 28 of the former-119, diverting the vehicles by the CC-246 to Losar de la Vera, for its subsequent incorporation to the EX-203.
