According to NGO Liberties, the rule of law in Slovakia is undermined by the current government of Robert Fico. It also identified the draft Act on Foreign Agents following the example of Russia as problematic. Hungary, which perceives as “elected autocracy”, turned out even worse.
A year ago, the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s Office ceased to exist. Its abolition was part of the amendment to the Criminal Code from Robert Fico’s government. Changes in Slovakia have also noticed abroad.
The non -governmental organization of the Union of Civil Freedoms for Europe (Libertias) registered in Berlin AS has included Slovakia together with Italy, Romania, Croatia and Bulgaria among the countries of the European Union in which democracy is declining and there are concerns about the rule of law.
Informs the British. Even worse are evaluated by Hungary, which no longer perceives in Brussels as a full -fledged democracy, but as a “chosen autocracy”.
Fico perceives as a nationalist populist
“There are concerns about several changes in Slovakia that the government of nationalist populist Robert Fico, including the abolition of the Office of Special Prosecutors and the Bill of the Russia -style law on foreign agents,” said the British daily.
“This law would require NGOs to carry a stigmatizing designation” an organization supported from abroad “if they adopted more than € 5,000 from abroad,” recalls The Guardian.
The draft Act on Foreign Agents later was replaced by a bill on lobbying, which would only apply to “NGOs”. According to them, however, it is set to discriminatory.
