The gardener reveals when to cut the roses. They will bloom like crazy

We usually cut the roses twice a year, in spring and summer. Spring cutting of roses is best made in March or early Aprilwhen the risk of severe frosts passes, but the buds of the plants will not be able to develop fully yet. An experienced gardener once told me that the perfect time is the time when the rose buds begin to swell slightly. This is a sign that the plant comes to life. Pruning made too early can expose the bush to freezing, and too late – weaken its growth and delay flowering.

Pruning roses is not difficult, but you need to stick to a few rules. First of all, choose the right tools, a sharp and clean pruning shears is the basis. Started or dirty tools can damage shoots and increase the risk of diseases. Remove all dead, damaged or frozen shoot. Also cut those damaged or broken. If you leave them, they will burden the plant unnecessarily. Perform cutting just above the healthy bud, at a slantwhich will facilitate the outflow of water and prevent rotting in places of cuts. These wounds should heal as quickly as possible.

The method of pruning roses depends on their variety. Discount cut to a height of approx. 15-20 cm above the ground, leaving 4-6 strong shoots. Climbing roses only require a slight shortening and removal of damaged branches. Large-flowered roses are cut harder, leaving 3-5 stitches on each rushing, and a light x-ray is enough. Choose a cheerful and rainless day for pruning roses.

After cutting, roses require adequate care. It is worth using a multi -component fertilizer for rosesto stimulate their growth and flowering. Mulling with a layer of bark or compost will help maintain moisture and limit weed development. In spring, moderate watering is enough, but it is worth taking care of regular irrigation during drought. To protect plants against diseases, it’s good spray the shrubs with a preparation against mushrooms and pests. Thanks to proper pruning and care, roses will repay with lush, healthy and long flowering.
