United States President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin are expected to talk on Tuesday about negotiations for the end of the war in Ukraine. The discussion will deal with the division of “certain assets” such as lands and power generation plants.
“We’ll see if we have something to announce maybe until Tuesday. I will talk to President Putin on Tuesday, ”Trump told reporters in a press conference aboard Air Force One during a Florida flight, where he lives to Washington on Sunday night, 16.
“A lot of work was done over the weekend. We want to see if we can end this war, ”he continued. The new conversation between the two leaders this week was revealed by the White House special envoy to Ukraine, Steve Witkoff on Sunday.
The envoy said he had a positive meeting with Putin last week that lasted three to four hours. Despite not giving details of the conversation, Witkoff states that both sides “diminished the differences between them.”
Ukraine has already agreed to support the US ceasefire. But President Volodmir Zelenski accuses Putin of purposely delaying negotiations while trying to arrest the Ukrainian forces to improve his position in ceasefire discussions. (With information from international agencies).
