The United States reported the first outbreak of Deadly H7N9 Avian flu in a poultry farm since 2017, while the country continues to face another avian flu strain that infected human beings and caused egg prices to reach record levels.
The spread of Avian flu devastated herds worldwide, shaking supply and feeding the increase in food prices. Its dissemination to mammals, including dairy cows in the US, raised concerns among governments about the risk of a new pandemic.
The strain that has caused more poultry damage in recent years and the death of a person in the US is H5N1.
But the H7N9 Avian flu virus has shown a much higher mortality rate, killing almost 40% of infected humans since it was first detected in 2013, according to the World Health Organization.
H7N9’s latest outbreak was detected on a farm with 47,654 business cutting chickens in Noxubee, Mississippi, the Paris-based World Animal Health Organization said in a report on Monday, citing US officials.
“Highly pathogenic avianza (HPAI) H7N9 of North America’s wild bird lineage was detected in a commercial cut of mississippi. The depopulation of the affected site is underway, ”says the report.
