The new documentary series “Bateau Mouche: The Wreck of Justice”, Based on a real tragedy, debut on the Max streaming platform on Tuesday (18). In all, they will be Three episodes released every Tuesday at 21h.
In an interview with CNNdirectors and producers of the new work told in detail the challenges of focusing on the stories of the victims of the tragedy. Filmed in Rio de Janeiro, production revisits the impact of wreck means of file images and more than 30 exclusive interviews with survivors, relatives of the victims, lawyers, experts and fishermen involved in the rescue.
“Personally is painful, because we are listening to very sad, devastating stories,” he said Tatianadirector and producer of the documentary, also responsible for “Brutal Pact: The Assassination of Daniella Perez”. “From the point of view of feeling, of what these families have passed, it’s very hard, you are there interviewing them all and listening to everything, it is painful, it is difficult,” he added.
The filmmaker pointed out, then, that there was a lot of focus of the team in “taking care” of the respondents.
“You have to welcome those people a lot and we played a very welcoming role, they felt safe with us. Our team was very careful and affectionate, we understand that they are opening very deep wounds, it is not easy for us to talk about and in their life, which have gone through such brutal things, it is even more,” she reported.
“When you sit in front of Boris, for example, who lost your son and wife it is devastating to hear. The whole team cried. ”
Next to Guto Barradirector and producer of production who also acted in “Brutal Pact: Daniella Perez’s murder”, Tatiana also reflected on the challenges of not going beyond the limit in dramatization and bringing a result that was “respectful” to all victims.
“It was important that the filming would be respectful to family members and the victims.
Guto, in turn, stressed how it was “very important we could do it the right way.”
“We could not occupy a space of dramatization, something soap opera. So, finding this formula was a very difficult thing. We had an incredible team that collaborated a lot in the whole process.
Among the unpublished statements of the documentary series are the reports of Fatima Bernardes, Malu Mader and Bernardo Amaral, son of Yara Amaral.
The production also brings detailed recreations, made in both sea and projected, 40 meters long, 30 wide and up to 25 deep tank.
The case. Decades after the tragedy, none of those involved are arrested and only one family received compensation.
“When we look for relevant stories the question is, ‘Why are we going to tell this story now? When we looked at Bateau, we looked a lot in a sense that is different, it is not the classic that we are used to murder, but it is with many embedded crimes, right? Discovery Brazil.
“And bringing a story that happened for over thirty years, but that is still current today and we imagine that it will generate many discussions, it is very important. It is always to generate conversation, to draw the attention of society to a point,” concluded the professional.
