Christ the Redeemer must be reopened on Tuesday

O, one of Brazil’s leading postcards and one of the seven wonders of the modern world, is scheduled to reopen its hits on Tuesday (18). The reopening occurs after a temporary interdiction on Monday (17), motivated by a tragic incident. The measure was taken by Procon and the Consumer Protection Secretariat of the State of, after the death of a 54 -year -old tourist from Rio Grande do Sul. The accident occurred on the monument access stairs at a time when there were no rescuers available at the site. According to the Corcovado Trem Concessionaire, the victim suffered a fulminant heart attack, which made it impossible for any effective medical intervention.

After the tragic episode, an emergency meeting was called at Guanabara Palace, headquarters of the Rio de Janeiro State Government. The meeting was attended by all bodies and institutions involved in the administration of the Corcovado Complex. During the meeting, measures were defined to ensure the safety of visitors, including the permanent presence of an ambulance and the continuous functioning of medical attention during visitation hours. In addition, investments are planned to improve site infrastructure to provide a safer environment for tourists.

State Secretary of Consumer Protection, Gutemberg Fonseca, stressed the importance of creating a security protocol that ensures visitors a safe experience when visiting Christ the Redeemer. He stated that all appropriate measures are being taken to ensure the safety of tourists and their families. Last year, the monument received more than 3 million visitors.
