Verdon is in the same key as Cerro Porteño; animosity among clubs increases after racism to Luighi in Libertadores under-20
It held on the night of Monday (17), in Luque, Paraguay, the draw of the groups of the Copa Libertadores 2025. The ceremony was attended by leaders of the participating clubs-with the exception of Leila Pereira, president of, who boycotted that the entity that governs football in South America was conniving with the racism suffered by striker Luighi, during the Libertadores Sub-20. Brazil will be represented by Palmeiras ,,, and in the competition.
Each team will play six matches in the group stage, three as home team and three as a visitor. The dates, times and broadcasters responsible for the transmission will still be defined by the coming days. The competition will be covered by Globo (open TV), ESPN (closed TV), Disney+ and Paramount+ (streaming).
The top two in each group automatically advance to the round of 16, with clashes defined by a new draw on June 4. The third placed will be transferred to the South American Cup, where they will play a playoff against the vice-leaders of this competition. The Libertadores final is scheduled for November 29, but the place has not yet been defined.
The draw put Palmeiras and Cerro Porteño in the same group. Recently, the teams were involved in a case of racism that generated worldwide repercussion. During Libertadores under-20 on March 6, Palmeiras players were targeted by racist offenses for Paraguayan fans. After the episode, the CBF and the president of the São Paulo club, asked the exclusion of Cerro Porteño from the competition, alleging recurrence in discriminatory acts. The request, however, was not fulfilled
Another remarkable reunion will be between São Paulo and Talleres. In 2019, the Argentine team eliminated Tricolor in the preliminary phase of Libertadores. Flamengo took a group considered easy, with only one more traditional team, LDU, from Ecuador. Deportivo Táchira, from Venezuela, and Central Cordoba, a small club from Argentina, are misfortune. Internacional and Bahia are the only Brazilians who will face each other in the group stage.
