On the morning of Tuesday (18), during a session at the Legislative Assembly of the State of Acre (Aleac), Deputy Dr. Michelle Melo presented an indication based on Law No. 11,947/2009, requesting special attention to the production of passion fruit from the municipality of Capixaba. The initiative aims to ensure that the state government prioritizes the purchase of the fruit produced by local farmers, strengthening the regional economy and ensuring income for producing families.

The political articulation of the deputy was visited by representatives of family farming from Capixaba, including the deputy mayor and secretary of agriculture of the municipality, Amilton Costa, the president of the Copasfe cooperative, Nilva, and the representative of Copeliber, Fatima Nascimento.
The group reported difficulties faced by local producers to market production, as the state government has acquired passion fruit from other states, leaving acrean farmers in a vulnerable situation.
According to representatives, the lack of policies that encourage the purchase of regional production directly affects the sustainability of families that depend on agriculture to survive. “Our farmers are facing difficulties because local production is not being valued. If the government bought from the producers of Acre, we would be helping these families and strengthening our agriculture,” said Amilton Costa.
Representative Dr. Michelle Melo, known for her work for workers and small producers, said she will make a try to find a way with the government to ensure proper flow of the production of Capixaba passion fruit, ensure decent working conditions, marketing for farmers and to strengthen the Acre agricultural economy.
