Minister of Mines and Energy told journalists to know that proposal stirs many interests and that agents will distort facts
The government awaits a reconquest of its popularity to present to Congress the reform of the electricity sector, which aims to reduce subsidies in the CDE (energy development account) – unconnected by all Brazilians in the electricity bill – open the free energy market and finally reduce the price of electricity in the country.
In conversation with journalists on Monday (17.mar.2025), the Minister of Mines and Energy, said that the project remains under analysis at the Civil House and should only be presented after the government finds the right way to communicate the idea. This is a reflection of what happened to, which in the end became the ammunition of the opposition against the president (PT).
“Social networks transform the information. This happened in PIX politics, a super well -intentioned policy, President Lula would never admit any possibility of taxing the poor, to tax the classes he represents with such vigor and with such determination. But, unfortunately, fake news and the distortion of facts today reach, unfortunately, a substantial part of public opinion ”said Silveira. “All transverse policy, it must be first communicated properly. Today we have to win society first ”.
Silveira stated that the proposal for reform of the electricity sector has a great potential to wear out the government because it will move with many interests. In the minister’s view, the government needs to focus on the recovery of popularity and the construction of a strategy that transmits the technical benefits of the proposal to Brazilians.
“Unfortunately, if you launch an extremely coherent public policy, super well -intentioned, super well debated, technically viable, they can still make negative news or distort the facts, reaching public opinion against the country, not just against the government. Therefore, the policy of the electricity sector is being carefully discussed, it will be a structuring policy. It will mess with many interests, because, of course, the sector that has been so misrepresented and, in particular, by several jabutis that have been placed in recent years in the laws that went to the National Congress ”said the minister.
The minister said the government also studies the best way to present the proposal to Congress. Silveira argues that it is as a provisional measure, but another option on the table is the sending of a bill with emergency regime.
Earlier this month, Silveira stated that the reform would be. This time, it did not confirm the deadline, but stated that the text will leave the Civil House in the first half of 2025.
