In a rare participation of a President of the Republic at the inauguration ceremony of a management of (Brazilian Bar Association), (PT) spoke on Monday (17) about episodes of the democratic history of Brazil, and defended.
“If the problems arising from sad inheritances have not died, we are faced with typical civilizing challenges of our time,” said the president, at the event that marks the beginning of Beto Simonetti’s second term in front of the Order in Brasilia.
“I want to highlight the misinformation and spread of hatred on social networks in the face of a lack of proper regulation we have observed a concentration of powerless power in the digital oligarchies,” he said.
The president defended the need for a robust legal framework to deal with the issue of networks.
In front of an audience of lawyers, Lula made critical references to and said that “thanks to the performance of a combative advocacy I could see my innocence prevail in the face of the abuse of power perpetrated by a group that wanted to take justice and the right to themselves.”
At the end of the president’s speech, some lawyers who were in the middle of the public shouted “without amnesty”, in reference to the desire for supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) to amnesty the January 8 prisoners.
The president also announced, in his speech, to have sanctioned a bill that exempts lawyers to anticipate the payment of procedural costs in collection actions and execution of attorney’s fees. The signature was made after a meeting with Simonetti at the Planalto Palace last week.
Before Lula, Simonetti also spoke, with a speech in defense of democracy and also from the distancing of the order of political party guidelines.
“To fulfill all its obligations well, the order must remain nonpartisan. The OAB does not support or oppose parties and rulers. Our commitment is to the Constitution,” said the president of the OAB.
With the second term, Simonetti, 47, who has a significant part of the entity, but also has resistance from important category, especially in states such as São Paulo and Minas Gerais.
There was no impediment to the reelection of an OAB president, but traditionally a relay occurred at the post. Simonetti was reelected in a single plate after opposition to run for the current president.
By taking the first term in 2022, Simonetti promised to do a more class and conciliatory management with the country’s political forces. He succeeded Felipe Santa Cruz, who was a constant critic of the then president Bolsonaro.
In recent years, Simonetti has sometimes come to negatives by the member of the (Supreme Court) to lawyers who wanted to make the so -called oral support in certain judgments of the Court.
At the second term event were, in addition to President Lula, the president of the Supreme, Luis Roberto Barroso, the (Superior Court of Justice), Herman Benjamin, and other members of higher courts.
The president of, (-PB), (-AP), and governors Ronaldo Caiado (União Brasil-GO) and Wilson Lima (Brazil-AM Union)-Simonetti is Amazonian. The event took place at a convention center in Brasilia.
