Initiative, initially presented by Finance Minister Fernando Haddad, in October last year, is part of a package of measures to cut spending
The president is about to take a significant step towards fulfilling one of his campaign promises. This Tuesday (18), he will send to a bill that aims to exempt from citizens who receive up to $ 5,000 per month. The official announcement is scheduled for 11:30 am at the Planalto Palace in Brasilia.
This initiative, initially presented by Finance Minister Fernando Haddad, in October last year, is part of a package of spending cut measures. However, the proposal faced resistance from both the market and parliamentarians, which led to adjustments in the text before its presentation to Congress.
The meeting for the announcement will be attended by important figures from the Brazilian political scenario. In addition to President Lula, the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Mota, the president of the Federal Senate, David Alcolumbre, party leaders and Finance Minister Fernando Haddad will be present. On the eve of the ad, Haddad was at Planalto Palace to make final adjustments in the project text.
Among the changes, we highlight the recalculation of the financial impact of the exemption, which, according to the Ministry of Finance, will result in a loss of collection of $ 27 billion in 2026. Previously, the estimate was $ 32 billion. If the project is approved, the new rules will only come into force next year, maintaining the current rules for income tax by then. After the announcement, President Lula has appointments scheduled in São Paulo. He will go to Sorocaba, where he will visit the Toyota factory at 3:30 pm. Before that, he will meet with the Minister of the Secretariat of Social Communication, Sidônio Palmeira, and the Secretary of Press, Laécio Portela.
