Corinthians will face teams from Colombia, Argentina and Uruguay in the first phase of the South American Cup, according to a draw held on Monday (17), at Conmebol headquarters (the South American Confederation) in Paraguay.
The team fell in group C of the competition, which also has America from Cali (Col), Huracán (ARG) and Ranning (URU) – two teams faced each other last year for the first phase. In the first leg in Uruguay, they drew 1-1. But on the way back, Corinthians won at home 3-0 and secured first place in their key.
The São Paulo club was eliminated from pre-liberators last week to Barcelona, from Ecuador. The team won at home 2-0, but had lost the 3-0 first round. So the team will play in South American.
In South American there are eight groups with four teams each, which face each other in round-trip games. The champions of each key advance to the next phase.
Those who are second in each group dispute a kind of recap with third places of the first key to the Copa Libertadores.
In all, the tournament will have seven Brazilian clubs.
