By stating that Brazil is experiencing a “exception regime” to justify his, the federal deputy (PL-SP) adopted a speech similar to that used by former deputy Jean Wyllys when he decided to leave the country six years ago.
At the time, the decision of the then PSOL deputy was mocked by the Bolsonaro family. Hours after Wyllys announced that he would go abroad, then -President Jair Bolsonaro: “Big Day.” He was followed by his son Carlos Bolsonaro, councilor of Rio de Janeiro, who wrote “Go with God and be happy!”.
The posts were seen as provocations to Wyllys. On the date, Bolsonaro was returning from the Davos World Economic Forum in Switzerland and denied it a pin – said messages only celebrated the success of the trip.
Already on Tuesday (18), the former president stated that “if the most voted federal deputy in the history of Brazil is forced to choose between exile or prison, this country can no longer be called democracy,” in reference to his son.
Wyllys gave up his third term in January 2019, shortly after Bolsonaro’s inauguration as president, under the statement that, by then, his stay in the country was no longer safe.
He cited death threats and Bolsonaro’s homophobic attacks against him.
“This was not an easy decision and implied a lot of pain, because I am also giving up the proximity of my family, my dear friends and people who like me and wanted me around,” he said.
Eduardo, in turn, said the decision to stay in the US was the “hardest” of his life and also appealed to human rights guarantees by announcing that he will not return to Brazil.
The PL deputy, who makes an offensive in the country against Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Supreme Court (STF), justified his trip as necessary so that he can “stop the totalitarian Sanha of a boundless psychopath”, in reference to the minister.
“I will license without remuneration so that I can dedicate myself fully and seek proper sanctions to human rights violators,” he said.
Just as Wyllys dedicated himself to denouncing the Bolsonaro government while being abroad, the PL deputy tries to convince American officials to apply sanctions against Moraes, who is the report of the (Attorney General of the Republic) complaint about the 2022 coup plot.
Wyllys only returned to the country in the first year of the Lula government (PT) after Bolsonaro was declared ineligible. The period when the former deputy remained abroad was as an example of the need to help defend human rights in Brazil.
