Moscow (Reuters)-Kremlin said on Wednesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin, and US President Donald Trump, have a good relationship and are determined to restore severely damaged ties between US and Russia.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made comments after Putin and Trump talked by telephone on Tuesday (18) and the Russian leader agreed to temporarily attack Ukrainian energy facilities, but refused to endorse a 30-day complete ceasefire that Trump expected to be the first step for a permanent peace agreement.
“I can say with a high degree of confidence that Presidents Putin and Trump understand themselves well, trust each other and intend to work to normalize Russian American relationships step by step,” Peskov said.
He said that there has been a direct line for a long time between the presidents of both countries and a video link when necessary, but it was hardly used during Joe Biden’s government. He said Putin hopes that now she can be used more often.
“Of course Russia and the United States are very large countries and a lot has been damaged during previous US administrations,” Peskov said.
“Therefore, of course it will need time and effort, supported by the will of the two presidents, to restore these relationships. But for now, this strong will of the two presidents is probably the best guarantee that everyone will follow this path.”

Peskov said the exact dates and the format of the next round of contacts between the US and Russia would be awakened today and tomorrow.
