Federal Deputy Érika Hilton (PSOL-SP) and the Ministry of Sport responded to the statements of Conmebol President Alejandro Domínguez, criticized as racists.

This Tuesday (18), he said that an edition of the Copa Libertadores without clubs in Brazil would be like “Tarzan without the cheetah”.

Hilton said he reported Domínguez to Itamaraty to be considered “persona non grata” in the country.

“In the midst of a debate about racism in football, he compared Brazilians with monkeys,” said the deputy.

It refers to the repercussion of the recent case of racism involving the player Luighi, from Palmeiras, who was attacked by Paraguayan fans Cerro Porteño in Libertadores U20.

“It is absurd that these words have come out of the mouth of those who should precisely value for the highest level in sports competitions, on and off the pitch,” added Hilton.

The Ministry of Sport published a note of repudiation against Domínguez’s statements.

“Declarations occur in a context where Conmebol authorities have repeatedly failed to adopt effective measures to prevent and prevent repetition of acts of racism in organized matches, including measures to combat impunity and promote accountability of those responsible,” the folder said.

Senator Carlos Portinho (PL-RJ) filed an application for the house to make a vote of repudiation against Domínguez and the Confederation. He received support in his initiative of names such as Government leader in Congress, Randolfe Rodrigues (PT-AP).

Portinho justified his request for the “compliant and unacceptable stance of the entity in the face of repeated acts of racism in South American football,” he said. And classified the statements of the entity’s president as “offensive, disrespectful and inappropriate.”
