Government states that more than 330,000 people will benefit from the conclusion of the works in Jucurutu

According to the federal government, the project was designed in 1950. The dam works began in 2013. It underwent adjustments over almost 12 years of construction, at the request of residents of the region. About 69% of the work was completed during the government of Dilma Rousseff, which was resumed in the Lula government with resources from PAC (Growth Acceleration Program).

The dam is part of the São Francisco River Integration Project and received R $ 46 million from the government in 2024 to continue the works, then with 95% completed. In total, about R $ 161 million from PAC were allocated to the work.
The dam will have an expansion in its reservoir capacity, which will go from 75.56 million cubic meters to 742 million. This expansion not only increases water security in the region, but also directly benefits 43 municipalities and over 330,000 people.
