On the afternoon of Tuesday (18), was again hit by a strong thunderstorm, bringing with him flooding and the overflow of several streams. The storm began around 3 pm, accompanied by winds that reached 78 km/h, according to Civil Defense data. The east zone of the city was the most affected, recording 41 mm of rain. The Water Spray, Guaratiba, Itaim, Lajeado, Red Água and three bridges were placed on alert due to the risk of overflow. The situation also affected the 12-Safira line, especially at São Miguel Paulista station, which suffered from flooding. Other areas, such as the Lapa region in the West Zone and the center near Sé Square, became impassable.
The rains were intensified by the heat and the entrance of a sea breeze, impacting isolated areas of the city. In addition to the flooding, approximately 114,000 properties were without electricity, according to information from Enel, which is working to restore the service. The Civil Defense continues to meet the occurrences of tree falls throughout the city, keeping the alert to all regions, including the North, South, East and West areas. The Emergency Management Center (CGE) also placed the east, Marginal Tietê and part of the central region in a state of attention.
