Thousands of protesters booed, on Wednesday (19), in, Israeli Prime Minister, who was accused of adopting an undemocratic turn and continuing the war against without taking into account the 58 hostages under the Palestinian movement in the Gaza Strip. The demonstration, the largest of recent months, was organized by opposition groups to Netanyahu, who protest against their decision to dismiss Ronen Bar, Shin Bet’s head, the Internal Intelligence and Safety Service.

The protest before the Israeli Parliament was also attended by the relatives of the hostages, who criticized the bombing in the Gaza Strip. “We hope that all the people of Israel are unite with the movement and continues until democracy is restored and hostages are released,” AFP Zee Bera, 68, told Tel Aviv.

“You are the boss, you have the blame” and “you have blood in your hands” were two phrases shouted by the protesters. Others displayed posters with “We are all hostages” or asked for the United States to “save Israel from Netanyahu.” The relatives of the hostages consider that, by authorizing the resumption of bombing on Tuesday, the Prime Minister “sacrificed” the still alive hostages, who could have died under the bombs.

Protesters accuse Benjamin Netanyahu of taking advantage of the war against Hamas to silence criticism and concentrate power in the hands of the government. Of the 251 people kidnapped during the Hamas attack of October 7, 2023 in Israel, which triggered the war, 58 remain in captivity, of which the Israeli army considers that 34 are killed.

Netanyahu announced on Sunday that he intends to dismiss Shin Bet’s boss, claiming that he has no confidence in him due to Ronen Bar’s failure to prevent October 7 attack. Netanyahu’s government also began a legislative procedure against the Attorney General’s Office of Israel, which expressed reserves about its policy.
